Autopromotec 2022: finally in attendance
Renzo Servadei
After years of virtual meetings, conference calls, digital presentations and the impossibility of being together, even for a simple toast with a friend, finally after three long years the great international fair returns to Bologna from May 25 to 28
Three years have passed since the last Autopromotec trade show, but it feels like a geological era, not only because of the difficulties we have all had to endure, but also because during these last three years the technological, commercial and even social evolution continued relentless.
This means having to make strategic choices for companies at all levels of the supply chain. The trade fair itself has evolved. At one time, the main reason for attending an event was to sell or buy directly at the fair. Today, as revealed by an interesting study by Francesca Golfetto, professor at the Bocconi University of Milan and one of the world's leading experts in the sector, the main reason that drives visitors to attend a trade fair is to understand how each sector is evolving which has a bearing on specific choices such as purchasing raw materials and services. This kind of information can only be sourced at a major international event, where companies from all sectors are present, from start-ups to large multinationals, offering innovative products. In fact, if it is true that tomorrow’s cars and industrial vehicles (connected, electric, hybrid or any other future technological wizardry) will always have to rely on wheels, so tire specialists will still enjoy many years of business, it is also true that the profession is changing profoundly. Like it or not, margins will have to be earned by offering a series of innovative services to customers. Soon, even tires will possess internal electronic devices that will allow us to think about new frontiers in logistics, marketing and recycling of the product at the end of its life. However, these developments should not frighten us, far from it! We are on the eve of a new dawn for the sector. New, increasingly ergonomic equipment will relieve workshop specialists from fatigue and the advent of electronics, always fascinating for young digital natives, will infuse new life to the profession. Do not think that this statement is tainted by excessive optimism.
Think, for example, at the paper sector: years ago, premium publications were made of virgin, coated and glossy paper. Today, on brochures and pamphlets of some the most prestigious "Maisons" we read the words: "this brochure is made entirely of recycled paper and we have not cut down any trees". Just think how much the world has changed for companies recycling paper! Times are changing even for the tire industry; the important thing is to come to terms with this fact and to keep up with the times by making the right choices. That is why it is crucial to have a major international trade fair that helps all stakeholders involved in appreciating the new horizons we're going to explore. Last but certainly not least, Autopromotec also offers us the opportunity to meet up with friends and colleagues after these long three years, and we need this too, even for a simple greeting.
See you in Bologna.
